BRIT Awards 2016: our predictions for this year’s ceremony

The BRITs are coming and I love all that pop goodness so much that I have not stopped thinking about this year’s nominees and performers. Undoubtedly, it will be a fun evening and if you stay tuned tonight, you might not see any of the performers get hurt (sending you love Madonna).

The BRIT Awards started back in the seventies and since have become somewhat of an institution, often compared to the American Grammy Awards. Following on last year’s entertainment Ant and Dec will be hosting the event at London’s O2 and punters will be treated to performances from the likes of Adele, Coldplay, James Bay, Jess Glynne, Justin Bieber, Little Mix, The Weeknd and perhaps the much speculated Rihanna.

I have been keeping my eyes peeled on all the news regarding the BRITs 2016 and have been thinking about my predictions for the big event. Keep reading to find out more.

1. Aphex Twin vs. Mark Ronson

Both artists are nominated for British Male Solo artist but the award is most likely to go to James Bay or Mark Ronson. Now Aphex Twin, with his eccentric take on electro music probably didn’t think he’d be nominated for such a popular award (or maybe he did) but he deserves any awards for being so damn good! His album Syro was a great come back and deserved all the praise it got. My prediction is that Mark Ronson will take the trophy.

2. Bowie disaster

This year we might not see any accidents live (I am sure you all remember Madonna’s gracious fall) but popstars will be performing a tribute to the late David Bowie. This might be the metaphorical fall we want to see this year. Whether their performance is good or bad fans of Bowie will find something to comment about.

3. Adele for the win

The lovely Adele is in the lead with four nominations and she should win the trophies for British Female Solo (although there is competition from late Amy Winehouse) and British Album of the Year. The reason I think that is not because her comeback was spectacular and she looks better then ever but also I am really hoping she will rap her acceptancy speech (shame on you if you haven’t seen Adele rap). Adele is also confirmed as a performer, which means she’s likely to win an award so cross your fingers.

4. Rihanna yay or nay?

Rihanna’s been celebrating her birthday in London this week making her suspected return to the BRIT Awards seem even more likely. However, there are reasons that could prevent the US singer from performing tonight. One of which is that following Kanye West’s swearword fest of last year, the producers warned performers, including the US Work singer that they were not to replicate Kanye’s behaviour. Knowing Rihanna this could go one of two ways.

5. There may or may not be diversity

As the BRITs have been the latest award show to upset the people with its lack of diversity. Tomorrow will be the right opportunity for the BRITs to redeem itself somehow and celebrate none-white artists. It is not as if we are missing incredible talent in the UK or around the globe for that matter.

6. Prepare to belieb

Yes! Justin Bieber will be performing at the awards and it’s likely that he will also bag an award (or two) and who could blame him. He’s last album, Purpose has been dominating the UK charts for the better part of 2016 and its all done to some banging beats. Stop fighting it, you’ve got Bieber fever already!

The BRIT Awards 2016 will be held at The O2 on Wednesday 24th February. You can watch it live on ITV from 8pm.
