C2C: Sam Hunt spotlight

C2C: Country To Country Festival takes place in London this weekend and the countdown is now officially on.

For the past fortnight we’ve been shining the spotlight on the main stage acts giving you background info on each ahead of their performances. This week it’s all about the Satellite Stage, the new stage that will be at the back of the O2 Arena and feature four acoustic performances over the weekend.

The first act we’re putting the spotlight on is rising star Sam Hunt who is being hailed as one of the most exciting new country stars in years. Sam released his debut album Montevallo in October 2014 and it has received widespread critical-acclaim and topped the US Country Charts.

30-year-old Sam spent his teenage years, and much of his early 20s, pursuing a career in football but in 2008 he made the decision to move to Nashville in an attempt to kickstart his music instead. Before he signed his deal with MCA Nashville in 2014, Sam spent his time writing songs for other artists picking up an ASCAP award for 2012’s Kenny Chesney single Come Over. He also wrote Cop Car which featured on Keith Urban’s 2013 album Fuse (and appears on Sam’s own album Montevallo) and Billy Currington’s We Are Tonight.

In August 2014 Sam released four-track EP X2C which peaked at number 36 on the Billboard 200 and number 5 on the US Country Chart. The EP set the stage for his debut album Montevallo, which was released in October off the back of hit single Leave The Night On. Leave The Night On and follow-up single Take Your Time have both topped the US Country charts. 6 other songs from Montevallo have charted on the US Country Chart too with only 1 of them, Raised On It, released as an official single before Sam signed his major label deal.

Sam has been credited for pushing the boundaries of country music as his songs contain elements of other genres such as pop, R&B and hip-hop. Whilst still country at heart, Sam’s music is refreshing and hails a new generation of country artists putting their own stamp on the genre.

Following his C2C performance Sam will perform a headline show at London’s Borderline on Monday 9th March 2015.

Sam Hunt will perform at C2C: Country To Country 2015 on the Satellite Stage at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday 8th March 2015. For more information and tickets head over to http://www.c2c-countrytocountry.com. Watch the video for Sam Hunt’s Leave The Night On below:
