When your dad is the legendary country star Glen Campbell, you’ve got some pretty big musical shoes to fill.
Not so for his youngest daughter Ashley Campbell, an outstanding banjo player and strong vocalist in her own right. She’ll be opening the main stage at C2C on Saturday 10th March at the O2 Arena in London, performing a tribute to her late father who passed away in August 2017 after suffering with Alzheimer’s disease.
Although Campbell hasn’t given away many details about her set, it’s safe to say we can expect some of her father’s classic songs such as Gentle On My Mind and Rhinestone Cowboy. In her recent interview with Entertainment Focus, she also promised ‘at least one deep cut’.
Campbell will have a busy C2C weekend – her debut album, The Lonely One, is due to be released on 9th March. Campbell co-wrote all the tracks on the album and produced it with her brother Shannon. The album follows her latest single, A New Year, which was released at the end of 2017.
Campbell is a frequent performer in the UK, having appeared at C2C most recently in 2016 where she played the pop-up stages. She also performed at the Nashville Meets London festival in London’s Canary Wharf in July 2017.
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Campbell graduated from Pepperdine University in 2009 with a degree in theatre. She learnt to play banjo for a play she was appearing in during her university course and was part of her father’s band on his farewell tour in 2011 and 2012. Her debut single, Remembering, a tribute to her father, was released in 2015 and appeared on the soundtrack to the documentary Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me.
