6 ways Secret Garden Party is different

In a few weeks Secret Garden Party will open its doors to all its gardeners and for anyone holding a ticket to the sold out festival the countdown has now begun. To get you in the mood we’ve prepared a list of things that SGP does differently and that make it so special.

This is a serious party

Of course going to a festival is generally associated with partying however Secret Garden Party does it better. You might wonder how? Well first of all the whole thing started off as a private party and then somewhat escalated to its current form, a massive party with 32,000 gardeners. That aside the whole place is designed to make you have the best time, from its sound system, crazy art installations, secret venues and activities, the whole concept of Secret Garden Party is one of entertainment. Whether you like to party in a forest, an arena, a ring or on a lake, SGP will gladly oblige. By day people might take it slow and pace themselves but by night the goblins come out and the fun reaches its heights.

It’s pretty

Unlike a lot of festivals (fortunately not all) Secret Garden Party takes great pride in its beautiful surroundings and setting. The start with SGP is set on beautiful grounds by a lake then there is the wonderful woodlands and its tree house and each year is themed and that theme is present throughout the garden and its centerpiece is the lake stage sitting in the middle of (you guessed it) the lake, last year it was Emerald city, before that a sinking ship, there was also the blimp one year and so on. Then there are the art installations whether monsters or fairies or mushrooms or even poetry, everything is simply bonkers and will make you curious and eager to discover more.

No advertising

Ever been to a festival and felt bombarded with adverts? Whether on banners, posters, walls and sometimes even in the campsite advertising at festivals is almost always a must since it’s a great way to fray cost for organisers, SGP however doesn’t like to be tied to sponsors and instead does how it pleases. Sure this means the festival is probably cutting it thin in terms of revenue but the result is worth it and quite refreshing!

It’s not about the line-up

Since Secret Garden Party doesn’t make money through advertising and relies on artists to give back, don’t expect the caliber line-up that other festivals have however that’s not to say that the acts that play there aren’t first class this year Kate Tempest, The Cat Empire, Jungle, Darwin Deez, The Orb, Stimming and many, many more are set to grace the stages of the festival but trust me you don’t want to stick to a tight schedule because the best part of the this festival is discovering wonders, whether musical or else.

Discovery

This is what this festival is about, discovering magical things and talented people. Quite often artists, which haven’t exactly made it big yet will play here and it will be your chance to discover them first hand. Then there are all the Secret Garden Party’s secret venues to be discovered. In 2014 a portaloo took you through to a beautiful sunflower garden, there was also the matter of the giant wardrobe, which opened up to an ice rink and of course all the secret woodland venues. 2015 with its childish things theme can only have more tricks and surprises up its sleeves.

You make the festival

Ultimately what makes Secret Garden Party great is the willingness of its gardeners to participate in all its activities, whether playing crocket, football zorbing, getting married, taking part in one’s funeral or simply lake swimming, Secret Garden Party wouldn’t be as magical if the bonkers people that go there didn’t let their inner child out and this year will be just as fun so if you hold a ticket you can start being excited (if you weren’t already).

Get your dancing shoes ready Secret Garden Party is just a few weeks away.
