The Great Escape 2016: Stephanie Rainey interview

Emotional and honest Stephanie Rainey is a pop/rock artist with a unique and captivating folk twist. Not only that, she is an artist with a rare innate ability to connect with her audience on a truly emotional level.

The Great Escape festival welcomes every year hundreds of up and coming artists and champions new music. Alongside the music, industry people can go along to key conference topics and meet key players of the business.

I speak to Stephanie Rainey as she makes her debut at The Great Escape festival in 2016.

Can you introduce your act?

My name is Stephanie Rainey. I’m a singer songwriter from Ireland.

What type of music do you do for anyone who hasn’t heard it before?

I always find it a bit hard to answer this… I guess the best way to describe it is acoustic pop with a folk edge. It’s quite emotional and I try to be as honest as I can with the songs.

Where can people find your music?

You can check out my latest single Please Don’t Go  – . The video’s a bit of a tearjerker!

Are there any releases coming up?

Yes! I have an EP coming out later this year, with an album to follow early next year.

What do you think makes The Great Escape such a great platform for new music?

Well first of all, it’s by the sea…which is always a good thing. I think it’s just a genuine festival that tries to give artists like myself a proper chance to play for UK industry. That’s really exciting.

Have you played at the Great Escape festival before?

No, never. So I’m really excited.

Where and when can people see you at The Great Escape?

I’m playing with my three piece acoustic setup upstairs in Patterns at 7.45 on Friday.

How would you describe your live shows?

Ha ha, it’s an emotional roller coaster. Most people cry but I think if you come along you’ll enjoy the show. It’s quite intimate and you also get to witness my awkward banter…

Is there anyone you hope to see at the festival?

I always just potter at festivals and go and see whatever sounds good coming from each venue. There are too many good acts to mention this year.

The Great Escape festival takes place in Brighton from 19th till 21st May.
