Rising Country trio The Cains are really beginning to make waves in the genre following the release of their self-titled EP last year. Comprising of siblings Madison, Taylor and Logan, The Cains have worked hard to build their profile not only in the US but here in the UK too. Theyāve performed as part of C2C: Country to Country, supported Sasha McVeigh on her headline tour and played their own headline shows around the country. Over the past weekend they performed as part of the first annual Buckle and Boots festival and added some headline dates around the occasion.
Last night they performed their final UK date of the current run at the Dublin Castle in Camden. Arriving on stage around 9.30pm, The Cains kicked things off with a cover of Fleetwood Macās Go Your Own Way. The acoustic set saw Logan and Taylor playing acoustic guitar, Madison on percussion and all three on vocals. It was clear from the first song that The Cains have a tight chemistry and they soar when they come together on harmonies; something that you could say is a trademark of their sound.
Over the course of the hour-long set, the band sung a selection of their original material and some covers. Recent single Knock Knock was one that got the biggest audience response and it was certainly one of the strongest songs the band has recorded to date. It showcases their harmonies impressively and hearing it acoustic was actually pretty special. Away from the production their individual voices shined and the end result was simply spine tingling.
Other highlights over the course of the set included the summer anthem Island Life, the grungy Smoke on the Hill and the folk-country fusion of Down to the Water. Of the covers the stand out was the gorgeous rendition of Fleetwood Macās Landslide. Up until now I would have told you the Dixie Chicks version is my favourite take on that song but after hearing The Cains perform it so flawlessly last night theyāve edged the Chicks out.
Watching The Cains on stage felt very much like witnessing something truly special. Their natural chemistry, their entertaining banter and their flawless vocals and musicianship positions them to be the next big act in Country music. Thereās a certain magic to the band that radiates when they perform and itās even more evident when you see them live.
If you havenāt familiarised yourself with The Cains yet, then I urge you to do so immediately. Their brand of Country marries traditional with modern and their harmonies are to die for. I had high expectations before I saw them last night but they easily exceeded those. Iām already anticipating their return so I can get lost in their magic all over again.
