California-based Country singer-songwriter Shelby Darrall is ready to introduce herself in the music industry. Darrall recently released her debut single Swim, giving Country music lovers a small taste of what’s to come. A handful of weeks later, Darrall is unleashing her first EP Don’t, a four-track affair that showcases what she has to offer as an artist.

Don’t opens with Darrall’s recent single Swim, which is a bit of a family affair as her father Chuck plays banjo on the track. Darrall wrote the lyrics for the song (in fact she wrote the lyrics for all four tracks) and she lays her heart bare as she sings about not knowing what she wants out of a relationship. She sings about pushing someone away only to want them back as soon as she does, capturing what it’s like to be young and figuring out what love really is.

The track is a perfect introduction to Darrall who is a little bit Colbie Caillat, if Caillat produced Country music. She has a similar rich tone to her voice but she packs a little more power, which is showcased towards the end of Swim.

The personal theme of Swim continues on the other tracks included here. Dirt explores the expectations placed on women by society over a gentle acoustic riff. It’s the kind of song that’s catapulted Kelsea Ballerini into the big league and it has the potential to do the same for Darrall. Title track Don’t is all about the pain of missing a former lover and not being able to stop thinking about them, even when you try to move on. It’s a song that everyone can relate to and the chorus gets into your head with its gentle groove.

The EP comes to a close with Two Heads brings to the surface the frustration of being in a relationship with someone who is similar to you but being unable to get on the same page. Darrall’s vocal is gorgeous and drips with emotion as she delivers the deeply personal lyrics.

Darrall shows a lot of potential with Don’t. Every single track is impressive and she showcases her talent fantastically. Not only is she a gifted vocalist but she can write a great song too. If this is where she’s starting off, I can’t wait to see what she does in the future. If you’re a fan of current artists like Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris and Cam, you’ll find a lot to love about Darrall.
