Dierks Bentley has been teasing fans for days about his upcoming new music and today’s he’s confirmed that his ninth studio album The Mountain will arrive early this year.

The Mountain started to take form following Bentley’s performance at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival last summer. He set up a writing retreat in the Colorado mountain town with fellow songwriters Natalie Hemby, Luke Dick, Ross Copperman, Jon Randall, Jon Nite and Ashley Gorley to start work on the record.

The bulk of the album was written within a week and Bentley says its the most inspiring creative experience he’s ever had.

ā€œTelluride just makes you want to reach for your guitar,ā€ described Bentley. ā€œWe all went out there and got completely off the grid…out of our normal element and the grind that happens on Music Row and it was, from the very get-go, magic. Weā€™d wake up every morning, grab a coffee, take the gondola up, watch the sun come up over the mountains, and by 8:30 we were writing. We just wrote non-stop.”

Returning to Telluride two months later with his production team including producers Ross Copperman, Jon Randall, and executive producer Arturo Buenahora Jr. and an array of musicians, Bentley recorded the album in a small studio atop a mesa outside of town.

ā€œObviously, the songs were written and recorded in the mountains. But it’s the mountain that weā€™re all faced with every day, and the struggle to put one foot in front of the other even when things are hard, that we all have in common. Looking back now, I think we were all searching for hope and optimism when we were writing this music.ā€

The Mountain is available for pre-order now on Dierks.com. Fans who pre-order the album will receive a key to The Mountain that will unlock extra tracks, bonus videos, special merchandise and VIP experiences with Bentley on his 2018 tour.

At 12:00PM CT today, Bentley will go live across his social media channels to give fans an insight into The Mountain.
