Olly Murs has had quite the successful time of it since competing on The X Factor in 2009. Since then he’s released three studio albums, all of which have gone at least double platinum, with his second album In Case You Didn’t Know selling over 1 million copies. Last year Olly released his third album Right Place Right Time and it spawned the singles Troublemaker featuring Flo Rida, Army of Two and Dear Darlin’. Just in time for Christmas Olly has re-released Right Place Right Time as a Special Edition.
For the album re-release Olly has included 7 additional tracks and a bonus DVD featuring a full show from London’s O2 Arena as part of his Right Place Right Time tour earlier this year. Of the new tracks Olly has included the radio mix of his current single Hand On Heart, a 2012 live version of I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day, and an alternative version of Dear Darlin’ featuring French singer Alizee. There are two new collaborations on the record – Inner Ninja with Classified and Did I Lose You with Giorgia. Did I Lose You is one of the nest new tracks on the release.
Olly has also included new tracks Stop Tryna Change Me and That’s Alright With Me. Both tracks are classic Olly and fit nicely with the rest of the tracks on the album. It’s odd really that he didn’t lead the album re-release with one of those tracks rather than a new version of Hand on Heart.
The release of course features the full original album and it has new artwork. The booklet that comes with the release is full of new shots of Olly from his tour and is a nice little bonus for fans.
The real bonus here is the DVD that contains a full-length live show. Part of Olly’s appeal is his charm and he has it in abundance when he performs live. The concert was filmed at London’s O2 Arena earlier this year and sees Olly performing all of his biggest hits as well as fan favourites and album tracks. He kicks off the show with Army of Two before performing classic hits such as Dance With Me Tonight, Please Don’t Let Me Go and Heart Skips a Beat. In the middle of the set he performs covers of Should I Stay of Should I Go and Town Called Malice.
Right Place Right Time Special Edition is more than just a cash-in ahead of Christmas. The additional material really is value for money, especially if you consider a DVD release alone would cost more than the Special Edition does. If you’ve already got the album there’s plenty more material here to get your teeth into. Olly is heading towards the million mark for the second time and this re-release should make sure he passes that milestone.
