Since finding fame on Fame Academy, Lemar has consistently delivered album after album of great songs. About to release his new album Letter – in a few weeks’ time, we were invited to The Mondrian Hotel on London’s South Bank for an exclusive taster of what is to come. Although the venue was super-elegant and incredibly stylish and luxurious, a somewhat aloof and super-trendy crowd (think supermodel meets an LA trendy IT-crowd-meets Made in Chelsea) emerged. We felt like we were somewhere else, rather than in rainy London town! The pre-show atmosphere was not what we expected from a Lemar show, but once he hit the stage with his awesome band, we were ready to relax and get in to the evening.
Nick Snaith from Magic FM gave a few words, before introducing Lemar to the stage. Lemar opened with The Letter, which he delivered perfectly. The backing singers added a smooth vocal compliment and the harmonies between them all is just very perfect. Crazy Love is a stirring, stunning and beautiful track that oozes class. Mixing the old with the new, Lemar next delivered one of his classic hits in If There’s Any Justice, we could listen to the track forever – it will never get old. Hearing Lemar’s vocal range up close (if we were any closer to the stage, then we would have been on it!) is so powerful and breath-taking. Love Turned Hate was another belter of a track and one in which every emotion of every lyric was felt. Waving goodnight to the audience, Lemar was called back on stage by Nick, for one last song. Never Be Another You is sprinkled with love magic and it is one of those ‘let’s all sway together, with our arms up in the air’ kinda song.
Lemar has the ability to be incredibly humble and so talented. He knows how to interact with the audience and enjoyed a lot of banter-filled interaction with the crowd. Lemar is sounding fantastic and the new songs are stylish and silky smooth. We cannot wait to hear more from Lemar as his new album is released. Everyone is going to be in for a treat and we’re very excited about the launch!
