Kirsty Bertatelli is a well respected songwriter and has written a number of top 10 hit songs. She is a former beauty queen with a diverse background and fierce charity supporter and now it’s time for us to listen to an album that is all about Kirsty. She makes her ability to knock up great songs, one after another appear effortless. On this album, Kirsty has co-written it with the likes of Tom Nichols (Kylie/Celine Dion), Mathias Wollo (Cheryl Cole/JLS) and Don Mescall (Ronan Keating/Sharon Corr).
The opening song is her single release There She Goes, which evokes images of a free spirited woman, driving around with the wind and sun in her hair. It’s one of those great summer songs that puts you in a great mood and makes you feel like the world is your oyster, full of freedom. A stream of top hitting notes instantly pierces Baby Where Do You Run To, showing off Kirsty’s range, before the chorus comes along and we hear Kirsty’s ability to power and lift a song where it’s needed, we love the lush diversity of both ranges.
Disappeared reminds us of one of those beauty-laden country crossover tracks in the mould of Faith Hill meets Kylie, it’s a beautiful song. It’s mellow and laid back, full of earthy, country roots. Meet You In Mexico has a similar sound, but it’s all about having fun, being in love when you’re young and free to do what you want, whenever you want. Perfect if you’ve actually been to Mexico too, as it adds to the imagery of the lyrics in the song and paints a lot of different beautiful images.
These Walls has a very cool rocky-pop sound, with lots of energy, think Natalie Imbruglia in her Torn days. Strongest Weakness is a nice little pop number. The title track Indigo Shores is quite romantic, with Kirsty’s songwriting ability again painting thousands of beautiful images. Love Is and All Dressed Up are made for lovers and people who are truly and totally loved up. We can imagine Love Is being played in a huge scene in a big rom com movie, or in one of those scenes where people run through the airport to meet their significant other after being away from each other for a long period of time! The album finishes with a huge sweeping piano-heavy slow song about a lost love. Kirsty is an unbelievable talent and we just love how she is able to put so much lyrical emotion in to each song, that really touch the listener.
We have to say that even on first listen, you instantly feel connected to the album, when you give it a further few listens, you can start to pick your favourites and even start to sing along to the beautiful melodies that run throughout the album. The album is full of classic pop/country/earthy songs, written with the very highest talent and standards in songwriting. Kirsty has a fantastic voice, has beauty in spades and songs that will touch people of all ages. We’re glad that Kirsty is showing the world that she is as good a singer, as she is a songwriter. Overall, this is a fantastic album .
