FTSE – FTSE1 EP review

Sam Manville is the brain behind FTSE. The Midlands singer songwriter has carefully crafted his debut EP simply titled FTSE1 and first shared it with an audience whilst supporting AlunaGeorge in June. We heard the EP and here are our thoughts.

The first track on the album is Tidal Wave featuring Saint Saviour and straightaway this little gem spellbinds us. First come the mellow male vocals and as the music becomes more and more detailed in come the female vocals and with their fragility they add another layer of interesting melodies to the track. Tidal Wave’s chorus is soft yet powerful and would be delight live. The track stays simple yet it isn’t and without ever boring you it simply ends.

So Much Shine picks up where we left off. This is another mellow track filled with simple melodies and beautiful tweaks. Manville’s vocals flawlessly marry the music and you are almost in a trance listening to the track.

Float is another collaboration this time with Kenzie May. The track kicks off quite melodically but before long it drops into a big bass and in come the stunning vocals. Floats is light and melodic but what really hooks you are the retro beats that FTSE carefully sowed into the track.

Last but not least is the Consoom a big finish to the EP. By far the loudest and most imposing track on the EP Consoom ends things on a high.

FTSE’s debut is something quite special and filled with beautiful tracks ,which have character. FTSE are definitely ones to watch for the future.
