MacGyver 1×14 Fish Scaler preview

On the latest episode of MacGyver, Mac (Lucas Till) and Jack (George Eads) were tasked with transporting a war criminal called Victor.

The episode opened up with Mac and Jack struggling to get a captured Victor into their waiting helicopter. They had a hood on him but Jack had forgotten to bring the restraints. Victor put up a fight as his friends closed in to rescue him.

Mac eventually managed to make a restraint out of a tarpaulin and used some rope to pull him the the chopper. They got him inside as his friends arrived armed with guns. Their pilot Cynthia (Zulay Henao) was able to take off just in time as shots were fired at her chopper.

They thought they were safely away until Victor’s friends sent missiles after them. Cynthia took evasive action and skillfully dodged the first missile. The second proved more difficult and she struggled to shake it. Mac managed to cut up a metal sheet to create chaff to confuse the missile and it exploded. Unfortunately it was too near the chopper and it lost altitude and crash landed.

When they came around they discovered a wrecked chopper and Victor had made a run for it with Jack’s gun. Mac and Jack were unhurt but Cynthia was trapped in the burning wreckage. Mac found a way to lever her foot out and they discovered that she had broken her leg. Mac created a splint and used parts of the chopper to form a makeshift crutch.

They needed to get word to Riley (Tristin Mays) but had no means of communication. Cynthia remembered that she had a satellite phone in a red bag. Jack found it in the river, intact but full of water damage. Mac created a dessicant jar but it would need time to dry out.

While it did they needed to get away from the wreckage as the people who shot it down would come after them. Before they moved out Jack put the fire out. They then set off slowly on foot through the forest to try and keep safe and track down Victor.

Meanwhile at the Phoenix Foundation, Riley and Bozer (Justin Hires) tried to make contact. They realised the chopper had crashed and used satellite footage to locate the crash site. A thermal scan revealed that Mac and Jack had probably left the wreckage.

As they made their way through the woods, Jack tried to impress Cynthia with his tracking skills. They eventually closed Victor down and he fired shots at them. Cynthia was in a bad way so Mac made a fire for her to keep warm. He used the battery from the satellite phone to light it. He then left Jack looking after Cynthia while he went for Victor. He was able to track him down and came back with him tied up.

Helicopters had been dispatched to search for them but the foliage kept them hidden. Mac tried to alert them by reflecting the sun off his swiss army knife but it was no good. The satellite phone had dried out by now but the battery was dead from making the fire. As their enemies were closing in, Mac had to find a way to charge the battery again.

A thunderstorm was closing in so Mac cobbled together a device that would harness the electricity. It involved a bottle, handcuffs and a large blade. He explained that it was a crazy idea that would likely get them killed. He suggested Jack keep his distance but he refused. It worked and gave them enough power to get coordinates to Riley. She passed them onto the search team who arrived in the nick of time.

At the end of the episode, they arrived back at the Phoenix Foundation. There they got to meet their new boss Matilda ‘Matty’ Webber (Meredith Eaton). She’s worked with Jack before and he seems scared of her. It will be interesting to see how she fits in with the team over the next episodes.
