I thoroughly enjoyed the first two episodes of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and was keen to get started on Episode 3.
There was no real need for Capcom to release the game in episodic format but I think it’s probably been classed as a successful experiment. This is mainly because they have been so good that players will have wanted to see the story through. Had the first episode not impressed they could have been taking a huge risk.
The second episode did a great job of building on the first and progressing the story and characters. While it was mostly more of the same the developers kept things interesting with new locations, big set-pieces, boss fights and different nasties to overcome.
Episode 3 splits the action up again into two chapters with Claire and Moira then Barry and Natalia. However Claire and Moira get more screen time in this third episode.
This time there’s less new enemies to face off against as the focus seems to be more on overcoming the environment. There are simple puzzles to solve which involve some exploration and quick thinking. It’s still lots of fun but does feel a bit more of a slog to get through than the previous two episodes.
A big part of your time is spent in a slaughterhouse which reminds of the horror film Saw III. It’s as nasty as you would expect and you get to wade through pools of blood and body parts. Rather than new enemies the fights tend to see you face off with larger groups and they can be tricky to overcome.
At the end of their chapter Claire and Moira get to take on a massive boss in an epic fight. This fight is an important part of the story and how you finish it will have repercussions at the end of Episode 4. We’re not going to reveal that here though so look out for our review of Episode 4 for more details.
At the end of this episode you’ll be desperate to jump into Episode 4 to see how the story finishes.
Like the previous two episodes this one also brings even more content for the Raid mode. It’s arguably even better than the main campaign and will keep you coming back to the game long after you’ve completed the story.
It might be our least favourite episode of Revelations 2 but if you’ve played the first two episodes then Episode 3 is essential. Those who haven’t been playing the episodes should probably just grab the full release.
