Jerome (Eric Debets) makes a spur of the moment decision to leave the romatic landscape of Paris behind and move to Hollywood to make it as an actor. With no discernable talent for the profession, Jerome wanders around the streets of Hollywood meeting random strangers. Soon he is taken under the wing of Norma (Michael Airington) and meets the handsome but mysterious Ross (Chad Allen). Will Jerome’s dreams of stardom ever come true?
Hollywood Je T’aime is a quirky movie that whilst not being outstanding manages to be an entertaining watch. At the heart of it is Eric Debets and the unconventionally attractive Jerome. From his idealised idea about Hollywood at the beginning of the movie through to his tempestuous relationship with Norma, he brings a loveable side to the hapless Jerome. His interactions with Chad Allen’s character Ross are some of the best scenes in the movie and they highlight why Allen has become a staple of the gay interest movie.
The movie doesn’t quite succeed on all levels. The plot is at times meandering and Jerome seems to wander from one situation to the next with little idea as to what he’s doing. We blame this on a slightly under-cooked script and storyline. With a bit of work it could have been a lot tighter. That having been said Debets brings the character of Jerome to life and makes him someone you end up rooting for.
Hollywood Je T’aime is a solid movie that has plenty to offer in the gay interest genre. Whilst it hardly breaks new ground, the movie is entertaining and well worth 95 minutes of your time. Fans of Chad Allen will be disappointed to learn that he’s not in the movie too much but when he is he’s a joy to watch. Hollywood Je T’aime could be the perfect lazy Sunday afternoon movie.
