The best Halloween events for movie-lovers in London

The nights are drawing in and Halloween will soon be upon us. It’s a great time of year, with plenty of brilliant scary movies heading your way to creep you out.

There are so many great films  screening across the capital now that Halloween has been fully embraced by us Brits, but we’ve picked a few choice ones that are sure to chill you to the bone.

Let’s take a look at some of the best movie related activities for film-fans to experience in London to celebrate All Hallows Eve.

The Luna Cinema

The premier outdoor cinema showcase once again celebrates Halloween with three choice movies. After last year’s excellent screening of The Exorcist, this year they are going for some eclectic treats for the family. On October 30th their seasonal slate kicks off with cult comedy Beetlejuice, followed by The Silence of the Lambs on Halloween itself. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ends the run with all three screenings being held at Hampton Court Palace – a suitably atmospheric venue that’s stunning to behold at night. Head to www.thelunacinema.com to book.

The Prince Charles Cinema – Classic Horror All-Nighter

IT

Pennywise the clown is enjoying some stellar box-office success with this reboot of Stephen King’s seminal book/TV movie. A group of kids experience nightmarish visions of a demonic clown who surfaces every 27 years in their hometown of Derry to feast on its inhabitants. They reluctantly band together to challenge the evil head-on. Full of quick, sharp scares, this is less nuanced than its predecessor. This new version nonetheless is perfect for Halloween, with a great cast of actors too. Showing nationwide in cinemas. Check out our full review of IT.

The Exorcist at the Phoenix Theatre

I know this isn’t strictly a film, but since it’s based on one of the scariest films of all time, it’s definitely worthy of inclusion on the list. The Exorcist is unleashed onto the West End stage for the very first time in a uniquely theatrical experience directed by Sean Mathias and adapted for the stage by John Pielmeier.

It will play a strictly limited run at the Phoenix Theatre from now until 10th March 2018. This creepy and atmospheric performance stars Jenny Seagrove as Chris, Peter Bowles as Father Merrin, Adam Garcia as Father Karras, Clare Louise Connolly as Regan and the legendary voice of Sir Ian McKellen as the demon. The Rivoli Ballroom

There’s something quite fitting about experiencing horror in the lush surrounding of this gorgeous building. Screening The Exorcist (Oct 27th) and 28 Days Later (Oct 31st), their seasonal slate delivers horror gems from classic and modern cinema. The Rivoli Ballroom is one of the last remaining 1950’s styled ballrooms left in the capital. Designed by Henley Attwater with a barrel-vaulted auditorium, it first opened in 1913 and provides a suitably creepy atmosphere for their films. Check out www.rivoliballroom.com/events for all your ticketing needs.
