Stars come out for Rooftop Film Club launch

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner and director Dexter Fletcher were among guests at the launch of the Rooftop Film Club presented by British Airways in London last night (Wednesday 30 April).

The pop up film event, which takes place throughout the summer, celebrated its opening night atop the Bussey Building Peckham with a special screening of Sunshine on Leith introduced by its director Dexter Fletcher.

Dexter Fletcher, said: “What a great setting – being able to watch movies underneath the stars with the backdrop of London as the stage! Rooftop Film Club presented by British Airways is the must-visit cinema experience for movie-lovers.”

Washed down with Taittinger champagne, guests were treated to an exclusive ‘Chim Chimney’ cheese and onion flavour popcorn, created by Michelin star chef Simon Hulstone, inspired by the rooftop scenes in Mary Poppins. Guests were also treated to Ice Cream Union and Hotel Chocolat goodies.

Rooftop Film Club founder Gerry Cottle Jnr, said: “There’s something for everyone from blockbuster hits and summer classics to 80s nostalgia. We invite film fans to come down and experience film like never before.”

There are over 170 films being shown from now until September 30, including recent hits such as Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Saving Mr Banks and The LEGO movie, to classics such as The Graduate, This is Spinal Tap and Romeo + Juliet.

London venues include the Bussey Building in Peckham Rye and the Queen of Hoxton in Shoreditch.

Putting the British Airways stamp on the event, the airline’s cabin crew will be on hand to welcome guests and chaperone them to seats, as well as other surprises in store.

Abigail Comber, British Airways’ head of marketing, said: “The exclusivity of being able to watch your favourite movies outdoors, in a unique setting for a limited time, has captured the imagination of the public. With wireless headsets to bring the in-flight experience to life, we expect it to be a summer hit!”

The Rooftop Film Club starts its summer season tonight (May 1st) with Top Gun.
