The 87th Academy Awards took place last night in Los Angeles and their were quite a few surprises on the cards.
The evening was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris who had a bit of a mixed night. Sometimes he was bang on-form and raised plenty of laughs but other times his jokes failed to land with the crowd.
The big winners for the evening included The Grand Budapest Hotel and Whiplash. Birdman walked away with the coveted Best Picture and Best Director gongs. Eddie Redmayne was flying the flag for Britain with a Best Actor nod for The Theory of Everything and Julianne Moore picked up Best Actress for Still Alice.
Disney’s smash-hit Big Hero 6 won for Best Animated Feature and the short-film which ran before it in theatres – Feast – won Best Animated Short.
