Matt Smith joins Terminator reboot

Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has joined the cast of the upcoming Terminator reboot.

It was announced today that Smith will play a new character with a strong connection to John Connor. He joins the previously announced Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.

Smith is best-known for his role as the Doctor in Doctor Who and has also starred in Christopher and His Kind, Moses Jones and The Street. He can be seen next in Lost River on the big screen, directed by Ryan Gosling, and starring with Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes.

The new movie will be directed by Alan Taylor from a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. The film is expected to be released on 1st July 2015.

Since its launch in 1984, the Terminator franchise has earned more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
