Disney’s new feature Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie, is out now in cinemas. To celebrate the release, here’s a gallery from the recent UK press conference and the World Première which took place in Hollywood.
Angelina Jolie stars as Disney’s most wicked villain, alongside Juno Temple, Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville. Elle Fanning stars as Aurora, the young princess who is bewitched by Maleficent’s curse.
On its opening day the film took over £1.5 million at the box office making it Jolie’s biggest ever opening in the UK with audience reactions trending across social media networks.
Following the runaway success of Frozen, which is now the 5th biggest film of all time, Maleficent provides audiences another twist on the idea of true love by exploring the relationship between Maleficent and young Princess Aurora, played by Elle Fanning.
Disney’s global head of distribution, Dave Hollis comments “When you have the world’s most iconic movie actress in a role she has such a passion for, it can make the movie feel like an event. It comes through in the performance. It’s given us the potential to tap into the cultural Zeitgeist the way Frozen did, and become that thing that everyone needs to see.”
Maleficent is out in cinemas nationwide now.
