J.J. Abrams is to direct the Star Wars: Episode VII according to reports.
MTV.com reports that the Star Trek director, and Lost creator, is Disney’s choice to direct the first new instalment of the Star Wars series since they acquired the rights from George Lucas.
Abrams has been a fan favourite for the director’s chair and if the reports are true it means he’s beat competition from Ben Affleck and Jon Favreau who are both believed to have put their hats in the ring. In an interview in December Abrams ruled himself out of the job saying his loyalty was to Star Trek.
Star Wars: Episode VII is written by Michael Arndt and is due in cinemas in 2015.
