Jewel announced this week that she will release her new album Picking Up the Pieces on 11th September 2015.
The album is a follow-up of sorts to her 1994 breakthrough album Pieces of You, one of the most successful debut albums from a female solo artist of all-time. Picking Up the Pieces will see Jewel return to her folk roots and she’s self-produced the whole record.
When the tracklisting was revealed for the record, we were pretty excited because she’s finally recorded studio versions of some songs she’s been touring with for 20 years. She’s also including Everything Breaks, a song that originally featured as the B-Side to Foolish Games.
Many of the tracks from the new album are already out there to hear thanks to the many live performances Jewel has given of the songs over the years. We’ve rounded up live performances and audio for 11 of the 14 tracks that appear on the record.
It’s not known if the studio versions will be similar to these versions or not – Jewel does tend to change the arrangements and sometimes the lyrics for her songs once she records them. Either way Picking Up the Pieces is shaping up to be her best album in years.
