11.22.63 1×08 The Day in Question preview

The latest episode of 11.22.63 opened up with Jake (James Franco) in hospital in a coma after receiving a beating over his illegal betting. He was slipping in and out of consciousness and struggling to comprehend if he was in the past or back in present day.

When he eventually came around he realised he was still in the past and found Sadie (Sarah Gadon) and Principal Simmons (Nick Searcy) by his bedside. There was only 17 days left until the assassination of JFK but there was a big problem – Jake had pretty much lost his memory and couldn’t remember anything.

Before his beating he’d called Sadie to tell her he had everything worked out. He’d also explained that he was from the future and she believed him. She didn’t have all the details but knew he had a mission to complete and wanted to help him finish it.

Once well enough to leave the hospital, Jake was upset to find out that Ms. Mimi (Tonya Pinkins) had died of her cancer. When signing himself out it jogged his memory about putting Bill (George MacKay) into the asylum.

Jake and Sadie decided the best way to help finish the mission would be to get Bill back. At the asylum they found a much changed Bill. The asylum think that he’s responded well to their electro-shock treatment. Jake tried to explain to Bill that they were friends and that he needed his help. Bill got upset and while they signed him out he jumped out of a window to his death.

Less than a week to go Jake is spending his time angry while popping painkillers. Sadie got cross with him and he decided to throw the pills away and try and get his head straight. Sadie retold him everything that she knew.

With just a couple of days left to go Jake remembered the street he had lived on with Bill. Not knowing which apartment led him and Sadie to go door knocking to see if anyone recognised Jake. When he spots one familiar place they run into Lee Harvey Oswald (Daniel Webber) who remembered Jake from his birthday party.

Oswald allowed them inside for a chat. While talking Jake suddenly recovered a lot of his missing memories and remembered that he was going to kill Oswald. Jake asked for some water and while in the kitchen grabbed a large knife. He came back to the living room to kill him but found him playing with his daughter so abandoned the plan.

Back at home Jake explained about Oswald to Sadie. He was going to go and kill him alone but Sadie insisted that she stayed involved too. Rather than kill him they attempted to go and steal Oswald’s rifle hoping that would put an end to the assassination. Unfortunately they were unable to find it leaving just the day of the shooting left.

They drove to Dealey Plaza and planned to spend the night in the car but were moved on by a cop. Instead they parked nearby and Sadie fell asleep. The street lights started to flicker and Jake had a vision of the Yellow Card Man. It turned out that he was also a time traveller who kept failing to save his daughter and he warned Jake against his mission.

After Sadie woke Jake suggested may just letting history happen and going off to get old together. However Sadie was having none of it and insisted he finish what he came for. The morning of the shooting the car refused to start so they found an open one for Jake to hotwire.

At the end of the episode, Oswald was setting up his rifle at the book depository ready to try and assassinate JFK.

The season finale is The Day in Question. The past pulls out every weapon it has to keep Jake from reaching Dealey Plaza in time to save Kennedy. If he fails, it could mean death for Jake.
